Project time

09/2020 - 12/2020 (13 weeks)

BACKGROUND

Due to the sudden pandemic in 2020, many people's travel plans have been put off, including mine. But I believe that some people will still keep their trips and wait until the right time to implement them. And I think a plan for a future trip can be seen as a motivation to move forward. Therefore, Travelwow is an app that focuses on providing a freely and useful travel planning system and a platform where people can share their trips experiences.

RESEARCH PLAN

Methodology

Customer Interviews: I will be interviewing people with questions about travel planning and preparation. Participants: I will be interviewing people who have experience with travel planning and preparation.

Goals

1. Find out people’s attitude and need for travel planning.

2. Find out the good and pain points of planning a trip.

INTERVIEWS

Insights

From question 1:

1. The app could provide an informative platform for users to search and look for local attractions.

2. And the travel information can also be the starting point of their trip or travel plan.

3. Adding a to-do list function might prevent users from forgetting to bring the things they need for their trips.

From question 2:

1. The app could allow users to make a travel plan, which can be shared and edited with others.

2. Other users can create special comments or notes in a shared plan, such as visiting different places.

From question 3:

1. The app should provide information from locals and people who have been to the sites.

2. There could be different categories of contents in the travel information.

3. Learn about how social media generates and operates posts.

From question 4:

1. Users can view their destinations on the map.

2. The plan function can be designed like a scrapbook where users can freely edit and arrange their plans or layouts.

From question 5:

1. There could be a budget filter when users are searching destinations to maintain their trip budget.

Challenges

1, Sometimes, it is not easy to create a trip plan with others as everyone may have different preferences or time availabilities.

2. Some people need to make plans before their trips.

3, Some people may forget to bring things needed for their trips.

4, Some people want the searching result posts unofficial or more local and personal.

FEATURE MATRIX

Insights

The main functions of Travelwow are mostly from the section of “difficulty and high value,” so they should be easy and intuitive. And I should consider adding most of the functions from the area of “easy win and high value” as they are easy to achieve and they can bring  great value to users.

FINAL TAKEAWAYS

Design

This project was an excellent opportunity for me to have a comprehensive understanding of interaction design. I was able to practice from the beginning of researching to the end of the three stages of prototypes.

Communication

Because of the pandemic, some of the interviewees, tested users, and I could not meet in person, but we could talk through online or on the phone. I believe this situation allowed me to practice communication and the use of time and methods.
